Water damage and freezing repairs cost people thousands of dollars. Aside from the hassle it brings, the process you have to go through for insurance claims can be stressful too. This is why it is important for homeowners to perform preventative measures as winter nears. To do this, you can insulate your home's exposed pipes, drain your garden hoses and hose bibbs, and keep your garage door closed. If you’re going to be away from home for some time, turn off your main water valve and drain the pipes. It is also okay to leave your furnace on and allow your faucets to drip. Finally, make sure you check for drafts, inspect your pipes, and open your vanity cabinets.
